Writing and content decision
Texteo
A competent developer can build and maintain a minimal Texteo replacement in about a week; the product shows no durable moats and its core is reproducible with available open-source projects.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Texteo alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- User enters a prompt, system calls an LLM, and returns editable generated text.
What it still won’t have
- Polish, design and UX polish of the paid product
- Built-in payment and billing experience via Lemon Squeezy
- Branding, marketing, and existing subscriber base
- Any proprietary prompts, fine-tuned models, or closed-source integrations the vendor may use
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a single-tenant AI writing web app using Next.js (React) + Node API, Postgres (or SQLite) for history, and Stripe for payments. Core features in scope: prompt input and editable generated output, server-side LLM proxy to OpenAI (or configurable model endpoint), user auth and subscription gating, prompt/output history stored in the database, and a basic settings page. Out of scope: multi-tenant admin dashboard, analytics beyond basic usage counters, mobile apps, and fine-tuning. Include error handling, logging, and unit/integration tests for API endpoints.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- An open-source build was found+5
- 5 cited sources+3
- Evidence score86
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
