Story Craftr
A small technical user can build and run a useful substitute (text+image generation, profiles, token accounting) in about a week and modest monthly ops; StoryCraftr shows no durable moats in the supplied pages so self-building is realistic.

No open-source build does this yet
Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.
What a replacement has to do
- User signs up, defines family/profile, requests a story, service generates text and images, user reads/downloads story; tokens are consumed for each generation.
What it still won’t have
- Polished consumer UX and design polish
- Brand, customer acquisition, and trust from an existing product
- Built-in moderation, safety tuning, and legal/content policies
- Scale, reliability, and operational support for many users
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt
Build a single-tenant web app in Node.js + Express, React frontend, PostgreSQL, and S3-compatible storage that generates personalized children's stories and accompanying images using an LLM API and an image-generation API. Core features in scope: user signup/login, profile page to store family values and child preferences, story request form, server-side LLM prompt orchestration to produce story text, server-side image generation calls, token accounting (50 tokens/month per account) with a simple purchase placeholder endpoint, persistent storage of stories and images, and a story viewer for parents. Out of scope: payment provider integration beyond a mocked purchase flow, mobile apps, and analytics dashboards. Include input validation, rate-limiting, error handling, unit tests for API routes, and basic E2E tests for the core story-creation flow.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- 2 cited sources+1
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- Evidence score82
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
