Rentay

A technical user can build a narrow, usable rental search and booking workflow, but reproducing Rentay's supply, reviews, partnerships, and market coverage is impractical; keeping the paid service may be preferable for full product scope.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Rentay alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Provide searchable rental listings, compare providers and prices, allow bookings/reservations with provider onboarding, user accounts and favorites, map view for locations.

What it still won’t have

  • brand recognition and user trust accumulated by Rentay
  • market coverage and the supplier network (many listed providers)
  • existing user reviews and historical transaction data
  • affiliate and partner integrations Rentay already has

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal rental-aggregator web app using Next.js (React) + Postgres + ElasticSearch, deploy on Vercel/Render and managed Postgres (Supabase or Render DB). Core features in scope: (1) admin import/ETL to ingest and normalize CSV or provider API listings into Postgres, (2) searchable listings with faceted filters and map view (Leaflet + Mapbox), (3) listing detail pages with availability, (4) booking/reservation flow with Stripe payments and provider notification emails, (5) user auth, favorites, and basic provider onboarding dashboard. Out of scope: multi-language support, affiliate network integrations, high-volume scaling, mobile apps, advanced recommendation engine. Include error handling, input validation, and automated tests for ETL, search, booking flows, and payment webhook handling.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 2 cited sources+1
  • Evidence score58

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
