Learning and careers decision

RareRoles

A single technical user can build a usable niche job board replacement in about a week; the main value the paid site likely has is traffic and brand which are not reproduced by a straight clone.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Publish curated niche job listings, let job-seekers search and apply, allow employers to create postings and manage responses.

What it still won’t have

  • Existing site traffic and brand that drives applicants
  • Any curated network and historical listings data
  • Possible proprietary employer relationships and exclusive listings
  • Polish and moderation workflows present on the live site

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a lightweight niche job-board web app (Postgres, Node/Express, React or Next.js). Core features: employer signup and simple account, create/edit/delete job listings with required fields (title, company, location, remote flag, description, tags, expiry), public browse page with full-text search and filters, application flow that either emails employer or stores applicant (name, email, resume link) in DB, admin dashboard for employers to view applicants, a scheduled worker to expire listings. Out of scope: payments, multi-tenant billing, advanced analytics, and talent-matching ML. Include input validation, error handling, unit tests for API endpoints, basic CI, and deployment instructions for a single small VPS or managed platform.

How the score was reached

  • Build verdict base78
  • Evidence score78

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
