Analytics and monitoring decision
QR-Hero
A competent developer can build a useful self-hosted replacement in about a week; the product’s features are implementable without proprietary data or hard-to-replicate infrastructure.

No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.
$100one-off40 h to build
$50/mo6 h/mo upkeep
No published price to break even against.
No open-source build does this yet
Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.
What a replacement has to do
- Create dynamic QR -> host a short redirect -> generate QR image -> record and show scan analytics
What it still won’t have
- Polished commercial analytics dashboard and UI polish
- Hosted account management, SLAs, and multi-user/team features
- Any proprietary scaling, abuse protection, or enterprise support
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance
First-year cost

QR-Hero does not publish a price we could read, so there is nothing to compare against. What building costs is below.

Runnable build prompt
Build a self-hosted QR-code service using Node.js (Express) + PostgreSQL + a small React frontend. Core features in scope: (1) create dynamic shortlink records with editable target, (2) serve redirect endpoints that log each scan (timestamp, IP, user-agent) and support A/B target routing, (3) generate QR images (SVG) server-side for each shortlink, (4) CSV bulk import to create many shortlinks and return a zip of QR images, (5) admin UI to list codes and show simple analytics (total scans, timeline, country by IP). Out of scope: payments, multi-tenant billing, advanced fraud detection, and mobile SDKs. Include input validation, error handling, tests for redirect logic and analytics recording, Dockerfiles for deployment, and a README with setup and migration steps.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score82
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
