Analytics and monitoring decision
Promptmonitor - AI Visibility / GEO Tracker
A focused self-hosted replacement (prompt scheduling, model connectors, citation extraction and dashboards) is realistic for a single capable developer using existing open-source observability and analytics projects; the vendor adds polish, integrations and scale but no evident irreversible moat.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Promptmonitor - AI Visibility / GEO Tracker alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Periodically run user-defined test prompts across multiple AI models and locations, ingest the returned answers, extract cited sources and any brand mentions or contact details, store events and metrics, and render dashboards/alerts for visibility score, mentions, sources, and competitor comparisons.
What it still won’t have
- Scale and reliability of daily refresh at volume (hosted scraping and model-query concurrency and retry policies)
- Polished UX, built-in email/live chat support, and marketing/agency workflows
- Pre-built integrations with many LLM providers and ongoing maintenance of fragile scrapers
- Priority data freshness, SLA and enterprise features (custom contracts)
- Automated contact-extraction accuracy and tuned heuristics maintained by the vendor
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt
Build a self-hosted Promptmonitor-lite: use Node.js (Express) + Postgres (or ClickHouse) + a React dashboard. Implement: (1) a scheduler service to run configured prompts across multiple LLM APIs or headless-web connectors with per-geo proxies, (2) connectors for OpenAI-style APIs and a pluggable scraper adapter for web-based assistants, (3) parsers that extract cited source URLs, author metadata and contact info from fetched pages, (4) pipelines to detect brand mentions, compute Presence Rate and Cross-Model Consistency and store metrics, (5) a React UI to manage projects, display mentions, sources, geo-filtered views, and CSV export. Out of scope: training proprietary models, enterprise multi-tenant billing, and a polished customer support system. Include rate-limit/error handling, retries, logging, unit tests for parsing/extraction, and deployment manifests (Docker + docker-compose).
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 4 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score67
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
