Project and task management decision
posterly
A narrow, self-hosted scheduler that generates captions and publishes to a few networks is realistic for a capable developer using existing libraries, but reproducing posterly’s full multi-platform coverage, reliability, AI-video features, and agency-grade client workflows is substantial and better kept as a paid product.
Visit website↗Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need — the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship.
What a replacement has to do
- Create post drafts (media + caption) → schedule posts for accounts → transform/resize media per-platform → enqueue publishing jobs → worker posts via platform APIs and records outcome → surface basic analytics and retries.
What it still won’t have
- Out-of-the-box publishing to 18+ platforms and the full compatibility matrix
- Built-in AI video generation powered by Veo
- Prebuilt client-approval workflows and branded secure review pages
- MCP/agent integrations (Claude/ChatGPT/Cursor clients, CLI, webhooks)
- Enterprise-grade reliability plumbing (real-time queue monitoring, automatic retries, duplicate prevention) tuned for many networks
What remains hard
- Brand trust
posterly isn't backed by venture capital or built by a faceless corporation.

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal self-hostable social-media scheduler using Next.js (React) + Node worker, Postgres, Redis, BullMQ, and Sharp. Scope: OAuth connectors for X, LinkedIn, and Instagram (basic publish paths), a composer UI with media upload and scheduling, calendar view, OpenAI-based caption generation with stored brand-voice templates, a worker that enqueues publish jobs, retries, and logs outcomes, and a simple analytics table (impressions/engagement ingestion stub). Out of scope: AI video generation, integrations beyond the three platforms, MCP/agent plumbing, branded client review pages, and advanced per-network feature parity. Include error handling, retry logic, unit tests for API & worker code, and deployment scripts for a single VPS (Docker Compose).

How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 5 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score67
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
