Websites and hosting decision
PoopUp
A competent technical user can build a useful replacement (embeddable script + admin + simple analytics) in about a week using existing libraries like SweetAlert2 and common hosting; the vendor's one-time price and lack of durable moats make self-build realistic.

Not priced
No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.
$100one-off32 h to build
$40/mo3 h/mo upkeep
No published price to break even against.
No open-source build does this yet
Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.
What a replacement has to do
- Serve a tiny embeddable JS snippet to a visitor, fetch per-site popup config, render a popup, record impressions/clicks, and expose a simple admin UI to create/edit popups and view counts.
What it still won’t have
- Polished UI/UX and prebuilt templates
- Marketing, brand recognition, and bundled onboarding
- Guaranteed uptime SLA and paid support
- Advanced analytics, A/B testing, and deep integrations
- Legal/compliance and refund handling provided by vendor
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt
Build an embeddable popup service using React for the admin UI, Node.js + Express (serverless-friendly) for the backend, Postgres (Supabase) for storage, Stripe for one-time payments, and SweetAlert2 for client-side rendering. Core features in scope: (1) an embeddable async JS snippet that loads site config and renders popups client-side; (2) backend API to GET popup config by site id and POST events (impression, click); (3) admin UI to sign in, create/edit/delete popup configs (title, body, icon, triggers, frequency), and view simple counts; (4) Stripe checkout flow to unlock premium (one-time payment); (5) basic tests and error handling for network failures and malformed configs. Out of scope: A/B testing, multi-tenant billing, advanced analytics dashboards, and native mobile SDKs. Include server and client error handling, input validation, unit tests for API routes, and an integration test that verifies the embed script fetches config and records an impression.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- Evidence score81
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
