Finance and accounting decision

mysubscription.space

A one-user subscription tracker with reminders and analytics is realistic for a single capable developer to build and operate; the product's value relies on UI/UX and content rather than hard-to-replicate moats.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All mysubscription.space alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • User adds subscriptions -> store billing cadence & next-renewal -> scheduled reminder sent -> dashboard shows analytics and upcoming renewals

What it still won’t have

  • Bill negotiation assistance and any human-provided negotiation service
  • Mobile native apps (unless separately built)
  • Lifetime one-time-payment storefront and licensing infrastructure
  • Any third-party curated cancellation guides or editorial content

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a single-tenant subscription-tracking web app using React for the frontend, Node.js + Express for the API, and Postgres for storage. Core features in scope: user signup/login, add/edit/delete subscriptions with start date, billing cadence, price and currency, dashboard with upcoming renewals and basic time-series spending charts, scheduled worker (cron or serverless) to compute next renewal dates and send reminder emails (SendGrid) three days before charge, CSV export of subscriptions, and one-time purchase checkout flow stubbed (out of scope: full payment provider integration for one-time licensing). Explicitly out of scope: mobile native apps, human bill-negotiation service, editorial cancellation guides. Include input validation, error handling, background-job retries, basic auth tests (unit + integration) and end-to-end tests for the main user flows.

How the score was reached

  • Evidence score86

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
