My Vinyl

A capable developer can reproduce the core collection, barcode scan, Discogs sync, and value-tracking workflows in a few weeks, but reproducing the polished iOS UX, on-device AI tuning, Shazam audio recognition, widgets, and App Store polish is costly—so building a useful subset is realistic, but matching the full paid product is not.

No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.

No published price to break even against.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Scan a barcode or search Discogs → fetch release metadata → store record in local DB → render a vinyl visualization and show market value and streaming links.

What it still won’t have

  • Polished App Store UX and iOS-specific polish (widgets, Liquid Glass UI, Siri Shortcuts, VoiceOver)
  • On-device AI already integrated and tuned for vinyl color auto-detection
  • Built-in Shazam-powered audio recognition integration
  • Ongoing app updates, support, and App Store distribution/ratings

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Build a cross-platform (React Native + TypeScript) iOS-focused vinyl collection app with a small Node.js/Express backend (hosted on a $5–20/mo VPS) for optional sync. Core features: Discogs OAuth/token sync for collection+wantlist, UPC barcode scanner using react-native-vision-camera, local SQLite (react-native-sqlite-storage) collection store with search and filters, record detail screens with streaming links, marketplace value aggregation and simple time-series chart, procedural on-device vinyl visualizer implemented with WebGL/GLSL or React Native Skia, and import/export (CSV). Out of scope: implementing a proprietary audio-recognition engine (use platform SDKs if available) and App Store publishing steps. Include error handling, background sync retries, unit and integration tests, and CI for builds.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • 5 cited sources+3
  • 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
  • Evidence score59

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
