Websites and hosting decision

Mixo

A capable developer can build a narrow MVP that generates and publishes simple AI-driven business sites, but Mixo's scale, managed hosting, templates, language coverage, and trust/operations are costly to reproduce — keep paying for full product unless you only need a single-site MVP.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need — the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship.

What a replacement has to do

  • User supplies a short textual description → system generates page content and layout → build static site assets and wire up forms/analytics → publish to managed hosting and optional custom domain

What it still won’t have

  • Scale and reliability of managed global hosting
  • Large template catalogue, language coverage, and polished UX
  • Built-in integrations and concierge customer support
  • Brand awareness and marketplace trust signals

What remains hard

  • Brand trustTrusted by 750k+ businesses
  • Infrastructure at scaleManaged Web Hosting
  • Brand trust3M+ websites created

Runnable build prompt

Build a minimal AI website-builder and hoster using Next.js (React) for the frontend, Node/Express for a small API, PostgreSQL for submissions, and Vercel (or Cloudflare Pages + S3) for hosting. Core features in scope: 1) accept a one‑sentence business description and generate page sections using an LLM (OpenAI-compatible API), 2) map generated content into 3 responsive templates and render static HTML/CSS, 3) publish static assets to a CDN with automatic SSL and custom domain support, 4) endpoint for form submissions persisted to Postgres and email notifications via SMTP or SendGrid, 5) generate sitemap/robots and ping Google for indexing, 6) basic analytics integration (Google Analytics) and a Zapier/webhook export. Out of scope: multi-language expansions, managed global multi-tenant hosting at scale, WYSIWYG editor, marketplace, and agency plans. Include error handling, input validation, rate limits, tests for generation + form endpoints, and deployment scripts.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 5 cited sources+3
  • Hard moats found in the evidence-3
  • Evidence score57

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
