Legra

A single capable developer can implement a useful offline SM-2 IELTS vocab app (no durable moats visible in the product pages), so building a replacement is realistic and likely cheaper than continuing to pay for a proprietary service.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Legra alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Present daily review deck generated by SM-2 scheduler; let user mark known/unknown; update next review date per SM-2; record XP/series and show progress; store all data locally and allow import of curated word lists (definitions, translations, IPA, example sentences).

What it still won’t have

  • App Store/Play Store marketing and visibility
  • Polish and UX refinements (animations, localized copy)
  • Curated wordlists and editorial content maintenance
  • Brand trust and existing user base
  • Built-in privacy statements and legal polish

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a cross-platform mobile app in Flutter (Dart) that runs fully offline and targets Android and iOS. Core features in scope: implement SM-2 spaced repetition scheduler; local SQLite (sqflite) storage for word entries and user progress; import/export wordlists via CSV/JSON; review UI showing word, English definition, Turkish translation, IPA, and example sentence with Known/Unknown buttons; XP, streaks, badge system and a weekly progress chart; one-touch delete of all local data; unit tests for scheduler and persistence and basic widget tests for review flow. Out of scope: remote sync, user accounts, server components, analytics backends, and paid monetization flows. Include error handling for import parsing, storage failures, and missing media, and provide automated tests and a CI workflow that builds Android and iOS debug artifacts.

How the score was reached

  • Build verdict base78
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 4 cited sources+3
  • Evidence score86

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
