Audio and podcasting decision

JamTogether

A single developer can build a narrow, useful remote jamming workflow (join/create sessions and low-latency audio) using existing open-source work like sonobus, but reproducing the full paid product (polish, apps, marketplace, user base) is not realistic for one person.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Enable two or more remote users to connect and stream low-latency audio to a shared session, plus basic session discovery and file exchange.

What it still won’t have

  • JamTogether brand, user base, and marketplace liquidity
  • Polished cross-platform native apps and mobile UX
  • Any proprietary integrations or paid discovery/commerce features
  • Operational scale, analytics, and customer support

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Build a minimal JamTogether replacement: use Node.js + Express for the signaling API, a Postgres DB for user/session metadata, and a React web UI. Use WebRTC in the browser for low-latency audio with a Coturn TURN server (hosted). Core features in scope: user signup/login (email), create/join session lobby, peer-to-peer audio streaming between session participants, simple file upload/download per session, and session listing. Out of scope: native mobile apps, payments, marketplace, advanced audio mixing/DAW features. Include TLS-enabled deployment scripts (Docker + docker-compose or a small K8s manifest), monitoring (basic health endpoints), automated tests for signaling flows, and error handling for network/TURN failures.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
  • Evidence score56

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
