Huntr
A competent engineer can reproduce the core job-tracking + AI-tailoring features and a basic extension in ~30 hours; Huntr’s main durable advantage is brand reach and production polish that’s costly to replicate.

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need — the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship.
What a replacement has to do
- Allow a user to store job listings, generate a tailored resume/cover letter using an LLM given a job description and base resume, and export or autofill applications.
What it still won’t have
- Huntr’s branded user base and marketplace visibility
- Polished designer resume templates and ATS-optimized font embedding
- The official Chrome extension’s extensive site support and autofill heuristics
- Unlimited AI credits bundled into their Pro plan
What remains hard
- Brand trust

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a single-user web app (React frontend + Node/Express backend + Postgres) that: 1) accepts saved job listings (manual form/CSV import and a simple POST API), 2) stores resumes and profile data, 3) calls an external LLM (configurable API key) to generate tailored resume bullets, summaries and cover letters from a job description and base resume, 4) provides an HTML resume editor and one-click PDF export using a templating engine, and 5) includes a minimal Chrome extension that scrapes job title/description and posts it to the app. Out of scope: multi-tenant billing, advisor/organization features, advanced ATS font embedding, and large-scale site autofill heuristics. Include input validation, error handling, basic unit/integration tests, and deployment scripts (Docker + single small cloud VM).

How the score was reached
- Build verdict base78
- An open-source build was found+5
- 5 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- Evidence score89
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
