Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All HabitKit alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Open the app -> mark habit completion(s) for the day -> view calendar/grid and streaks -> get reminded next time
What it still won’t have
- App Store / Google Play presence, existing 1,700+ and 3,800+ reviews and brand trust
- Polished design and micro-interactions from the shipped product
- Widgets implementation and platform-specific polish
- Ongoing product improvements, support and changelog
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a cross-platform Flutter habit-tracking app (Flutter + Dart) with the following core features: local SQLite persistence for habits and completions; UI for habit list, habit editor, calendar/grid dashboard, streak counters, and theme support (light/dark); schedule local reminders/notifications per habit; import/export backups as JSON files; optional encrypted cloud backup using Firebase Storage (user-auth optional); support multiple completions per day and archive/restore for habits. Exclude social/gamification features, marketplaces, and paid tiers. Include error handling, input validation, unit and widget tests, a simple CI pipeline, and documentation for building and deploying Android and iOS builds.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 5 cited sources+3
- Evidence score60
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
