Forms and surveys decision
FormNX
A capable engineer can build a useful core form builder and embed/collection stack (rendering, storage, uploads, webhooks) in a few weeks, but reproducing the polished UI, broad integrations, templates, managed PDFs, and operational polish of the paid product would be costly; consider self-hosting open-source libraries for the core and keep paying for the full managed experience if you need the extras.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All FormNX alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- Design a form in a visual editor, publish/embed it, collect responses, run validations/OTP, forward responses via webhooks or integrations, and view/export results.
What it still won’t have
- Polished, production-ready UI/UX and templates library
- Large catalogue of one-click integrations and tested connectors
- Built-in PDF-generation credits and white-label PDF/email features
- 99.99% uptime SLA and managed hosting
- Cross-account workspace management, role-based access, and polished analytics/reports
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal self-hosted FormNX-like service using: React + react-hook-form for builder and renderer, Node.js + Express for API, Postgres for storage, AWS S3 for file uploads, and SendGrid (or SMTP) for emails. Core features in scope: visual drag-and-drop editor that emits JSON schema, REST API to save/retrieve forms and submissions, embeddable iframe form renderer with conditional logic and client-side validation, file upload support (direct S3 signed uploads), webhook delivery and configurable email notifications including OTP flow, and CSV export of submissions. Out of scope: white-label PDF generation, marketplace integrations catalogue, multi-tenant billing, and enterprise SLA. Include authentication for one workspace, error handling, basic unit/integration tests, and deployment scripts (Docker + docker-compose).

How the score was reached

- 5 cited sources+3
- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Evidence score67
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
