Analytics and monitoring decision
Fathom HQ
A competent engineer can build a useful single-company reporting + forecast product and add AI commentary, but Fathom's certified security posture, large user base/brand and broad integrations are costly to replicate — keeping the paid service is reasonable for firms needing those guarantees.

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need — the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship.
What a replacement has to do
- Ingest accounting data, compute financial KPIs and three‑way cashflow forecast, render management reports (charts/tables), and generate AI commentary for a report.
What it still won’t have
- Enterprise-grade security certifications (SOC 2 Type 1, ISO 27001) and compliance work
- Breadth of native integrations and connector maintenance (many accounting systems and Excel/Sheets flows)
- Polished UI, scheduled report delivery, multi-company consolidation UI and benchmarking
- Customer support, SLAs and training/certification resources
- Scale-tested reliability and backup/operations of a managed service
What remains hard
- Compliance and regulation
Fathom is GDPR compliant, SOC 2 Type 1 certified, and ISO 27001 certified , meaning we follow strict security and data privacy standards.
- Brand trust

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a self-hosted, single-company financial reporting and forecasting service using: Node.js (Express) backend, Postgres, React frontend, Chart.js, and an LLM provider (e.g. OpenAI). Scope in-scope: OAuth/API connector to one accounting provider (Xero or QuickBooks), ETL to normalize chart-of-accounts into a simple COA, compute standard KPIs and a three-way forecast engine (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) with scenario inputs, HTML report templates with PDF export, and an AI commentary endpoint that sends a prompt containing numbered facts and expects traceable sentences. Out of scope: full multi-entity consolidation UI, broad connector catalogue, SOC2/ISO certification, benchmarking marketplace, and enterprise billing. Include error handling for failed API calls, data validation, logs, basic unit tests for ETL and forecasting logic, and CI to run tests.

- Price verified on pricing page+3
- 3/3 assessment runs agreed+4
- Hard moats found in the evidence-3
- Evidence score64
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time — so the same evidence always produces the same number.
