Fated
A technical user can reproduce the core guided-journaling and AI-visualization workflow (several open-source journaling apps exist), but matching the polished native iOS experience, multi-language support, and any proprietary image/model tuning of the App Store product would be hard to fully replicate.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Fated alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- User answers guided journaling prompts → entries stored and timestamped → run daily check-ins/streak tracking → request AI-generated soulmate visualization → view gallery and insights
What it still won’t have
- Polished iOS App Store UX, native onboarding and platform integrations
- App Store distribution and discoverability
- Refinements and localized translations across 31 languages
- Any proprietary image-generation models or tuned prompt bank used by the app
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build a single-tenant web app (React front-end, Node.js/Express backend, Postgres DB) that implements: 1) a six-step guided journaling flow with persistent entries and tags; 2) user sign-up/login for one user (email+password) and local session management; 3) daily check-ins and streak tracking (cron job); 4) integration with an image-generation API (e.g., Replicate or OpenAI Images) to generate and store visualization images from user responses; 5) a gallery UI to view generated images and simple template-based personality insights. Out of scope: multi-user workspaces, native iOS App Store packaging, localization beyond English. Include error handling, input validation, unit tests for backend routes, and deployment scripts for a single small VPS (Docker + docker-compose).
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 2 cited sources+1
- Evidence score58
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
