Websites and hosting decision

Dirstarter

A competent developer can reimplement the core directory workflow, but the paid product's bundled polish, docs, and prewired integrations make buying the template attractive; full parity (UX, integrations, upkeep) is nontrivial.

No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Create and serve directory listings: accept user submissions, store and query listings, manage listings in an admin UI, accept payments for featured listings, and generate SEO/AI-backed content for listing pages.

What it still won’t have

  • Out-of-the-box polish, tested admin UX and design system
  • Documentation, examples, and support bundled with the paid template
  • Lifetime updates and packaged integrations (Resend, built Stripe setup, S3 wiring)
  • Time savings from a turnkey, pre-wired codebase

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal Next.js 16 + TypeScript directory template deployable to Vercel using Prisma + Postgres (PlanetScale or Supabase), Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui. Core features in scope: listing CRUD, public listing pages with SEO-friendly meta tags and SSG/caching, user auth and admin panel with role-based access, Stripe integration for purchasing featured listings (including webhook handlers), AI content generation endpoint (OpenAI-compatible) to produce listing descriptions, and i18n support for two languages. Out of scope: multi-tenant billing, complex analytics dashboards, and marketplace escrow. Include error handling, input validation, unit/integration tests for API endpoints, Docker/Vercel deploy scripts, and README with setup and environment variable instructions.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • 2 cited sources+1
  • Evidence score53

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
