Car Play Connect

A technical iOS developer can implement the core dashboard, navigation, music controls and dashcam in a week of focused work, but reproducing the published product’s App Store distribution, in‑app monetization, polish and any CarPlay certification is nontrivial—so building a narrow replacement is realistic, but matching the full paid product is not.

No pricing page we fetched carried a figure, so there is nothing to compare against. The build side is still real.

No published price to break even against.

No open-source build does this yet

Nothing published replaces this one, so a replacement starts from an empty file. Here is what it would have to cover.

What a replacement has to do

  • Present driving dashboard -> show maps and turn-by-turn directions -> control music -> record dashcam video -> show speed and weather

What it still won’t have

  • App Store developer polish and established UX refinements from the published app
  • The published app’s ongoing App Store reviews, ratings and user trust
  • In‑app purchase flow and monetization already configured

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a single‑user iOS driving dashboard app in Swift (SwiftUI) using MapKit (and Google Maps SDK optional), AVFoundation for dashcam recording, MediaPlayer/Spotify SDK for remote music controls, CoreLocation for speed and route, and local file storage for video. In scope: full-screen landscape UI with split map + controls, turn-by-turn navigation integration, Now Playing widget and playback controls, dashcam recording with preview and saving to app storage, speedometer and live weather using a public weather API, background location handling, basic settings, and unit tests for core logic. Out of scope: obtaining Apple CarPlay entitlements approval, advanced telemetry analytics, and server-side features. Require: error handling, permission request flows, secure local storage for recordings, automated unit and UI tests, and an App Store build script.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • Evidence score52

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
