Health, home and travel decision
Builtdifferent (Investor)
A capable developer can reproduce the core app (questionnaire, plans, chat, tracking) in a multi-week build, but most of the paid product's durable value comes from its vetted coaches, large user base, and curated content which are costly or impossible to replicate quickly.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Builtdifferent (Investor) alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- User completes onboarding questionnaire → coach/nutritionist creates plan → user follows plan and logs workouts/meals → user chats with coach for adjustments → coach updates plan periodically.
What it still won’t have
- Access to a vetted network of certified coaches and nutritionists
- Brand trust, large user base, and aggregated reviews
- Polished mobile app UX and attention to product-market fit
- A curated food database with 1000+ alternatives
- Existing customer support and operations for coach management
What remains hard
- Brand trust

Runnable build prompt
Build a minimal personalized fitness+nutrition coaching web app using Next.js (React), PostgreSQL, and a simple Node/Next API. Core features in scope: (1) onboarding questionnaire mapped to a plan schema; (2) coach-facing plan editor storing exercises and meal items; (3) user-facing plan view and logbook (workouts, meals, weight) with simple progress charts; (4) one-to-one chat (WebSocket or Pusher) with message persistence and email/push notifications; (5) serve demo exercise videos via an S3-compatible bucket and player; (6) simple calendar-based videocall booking (no payment integration). Out of scope: large curated food database (seed with a small sample), payment subscriptions, mobile-native apps, advanced personalization ML. Include input validation, error handling, authentication (Clerk or Auth0), tests for API endpoints and core UI flows, and Docker-based deployment scripts for a single VPS.
How we checked
How the score was reached
- Partly verdict base52
- An open-source build was found+5
- 3 cited sources+3
- Evidence score60
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
