Automation and integrations decision
Aera Browser
A single developer can build a useful, local agentic browser prototype (scheduling, DOM automation, local model or API integration) using existing open-source automation projects, but reproducing Aera's hosted models, marketplace, polish, and security/operational work is out of scope for a solo DIY replacement.

Open-source builds that already do this
Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All Aera Browser alternatives, with the arithmetic →
What a replacement has to do
- User writes a plain-language description of a recurring browser task; the app interprets it with an LLM, drives a real Chromium session to read/click/fill/collect, stores run history locally, and re-runs on a schedule reporting diffs.
What it still won’t have
- Polished cross-platform installers, onboarding, and UX polish
- Hosted model service and the vendor-hosted, non-training model guarantees
- Official skills marketplace and community-distributed playbooks
- Ongoing security hardening, telemetry, and paid support SLAs
- Integrated MCP clients and partner integrations maintained by the vendor
What remains hard
- Product polish and ongoing maintenance

What we assumed
The verdict above measures whether you could build it. This one is only about money.
Runnable build prompt
Build an Electron-based Chromium application (Electron + Playwright) with a React UI and SQLite for local storage. Core features in scope: 1) Plain-language task authoring UI that sends prompts to a configurable model backend (support OpenAI APIs and local Ollama), 2) Planner that turns model output into a step list, 3) DOM action executor that can navigate, read, click, and fill fields with retries and logging, 4) Scheduler to run tasks in background tabs and persist run history, 5) Local privacy-by-default storage with import/export, and 6) Simple run inspector UI showing steps, screenshots, and diffs. Out of scope: hosted model service, multi-tenant server backend, public skills marketplace, enterprise compliance audit. Include error handling for navigation failures, selectors not found, model timeouts; include automated tests for planner prompts, DOM executor actions, and scheduler reliability; provide packaging scripts for macOS, Windows, and Linux and setup docs.

- Evidence score63
The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
