Automation and integrations decision

ActRun AI

A single capable engineer can build a narrow self-hosted replacement for core workflows (ingest, LLM-driven drafts, simple automations) in multi-week effort using existing OSS (n8n/Flowise), but reproducing ActRun's breadth, polish, integrations catalogue, hosted reliability, and enterprise features is a larger product effort.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. Licences differ; check the one on each card before you ship. All ActRun AI alternatives, with the arithmetic →

What a replacement has to do

  • Ingest signals from connected apps, classify intent with an LLM, run a small orchestration engine to execute actions or surface drafts, store workflow state and approvals, and present results for review.

What it still won’t have

  • Hosted reliability, uptime SLAs and scaling
  • Polish of product UX, onboarding, and multi-app flows
  • Breadth and maintained catalogue of supported integrations
  • Enterprise features and dedicated support
  • Built-in credit/usage billing and sandboxed execution

What remains hard

  • Product polish and ongoing maintenance

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a self-hosted minimal ActRun-like automation service using Node.js (NestJS), PostgreSQL, Next.js for UI, and n8n for orchestration. Core features in scope: OAuth connectors for Gmail and Slack, webhook/event ingestion, a Thread model that aggregates messages, an LLM-backed intent/draft microservice (call OpenAI-compatible API), a small orchestration layer that can run saved Autopilots with approval gates, persistent storage of workflows and results, and a web UI to review Threads, approve Autopilots, and view saved outputs. Out of scope: enterprise IAM, paid billing/credits UI, multi-tenant isolation, and large-scale queueing. Include error handling, tests for connectors and orchestration flows, and Docker Compose deployment instructions.

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
