Websites and hosting decision

Abre.bio

A capable developer can build a useful, self-hosted link-in-bio replacement (core publishing and analytics) but reproducing Abre.bio's full hosted product, polish, and user reach is not practical without a team and significant product work.

Open-source builds that already do this

Every project below is open source and already does this job today. Fork one, self-host it, or take the parts you need - the build prompt further down assumes an empty file, and this is the shortcut past that. What a replacement has to do

  • Users sign up, assemble a bio page from blocks, publish a short URL, optionally accept payments or display media, and view simple analytics.

What it still won’t have

  • Polish, product-managed hosting and scaling
  • Existing user base and marketplace reach
  • Built-in content, templates and premium themes
  • Customer support and SLAs
  • Proprietary integrations and platform-specific optimizations

Runnable build prompt

Not run yet
Build a minimal self-hosted link-in-bio app using Next.js + React for frontend, Node.js + Express for backend, PostgreSQL for storage, and Vercel or DigitalOcean for hosting. Core features in scope: user signup/login, a block-based editor that saves page JSON (links, image grid, media embeds, payment block), public short URL routing (example.com/username), Stripe payments and QR-code generation for payment links, basic analytics (views & clicks) recorded to Postgres, and an admin dashboard to view analytics. Out of scope: multi-tenant billing plans, marketplace or agency multi-account management, heavy theming engine. Include input validation, authentication error handling, unit tests for backend routes, and end-to-end tests for publishing flow.

How the score was reached

  • Partly verdict base52
  • An open-source build was found+5
  • 2 cited sources+1
  • Evidence score58

The base comes from the verdict. Everything under it is a check that either happened or did not, and each one is a fact frozen in this record rather than a judgement made at render time - so the same evidence always produces the same number.
