What you give up either way

  • Polished cross-browser UI and subtle UX polish found in a paid product
  • Built-in analytics, telemetry, and crash reporting
  • Hosted reliability, CDN edge assets, and a managed export pipeline
  • Customer support and product updates/roadmap

An open-source project doing the core job proves a replacement is possible. It does not prove it matches Layer Blur, and it does not prove anyone has run it for a month. How we decide.
